Directions
1. Prepare the tofu
Remove excess moisture from the tofu and slice into 8–10 mm thick pieces. Pan-fry in a bit of oil until golden on both sides. Let cool and cut into 6–7 mm thick strips.
2. Make the sauce
Heat a bit of oil in a pan, sauté minced garlic, then add chili powder. Stir on low heat. Add soy sauce, honey (or alternative), and water. Simmer until slightly thickened.
3. Coat the tofu
Add fried tofu into the sauce and mix gently. Turn off the heat and mix in sesame oil and toasted sesame seeds.
4. Prepare the rice
Mix cooked rice with salt, sesame oil, and toasted sesame seeds. Loosen with hands or spoon.
5. Make the rolls
Cut each nori sheet into 4 squares. Spread about ½ tbsp rice thinly on each. Add perilla leaf (optional) and 3 tofu strips. Roll first with the leaf, then wrap with nori.
6. Serve
Brush finished rolls with a little sesame oil and sprinkle sesame seeds. Serve immediately.
