Directions
1. Prepare the Dough
Mix dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt. Add wet ingredients: Make a well in the center and pour in warm water and olive oil. Mix to form a soft dough. Knead: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. First rise: Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
2. Make the Garlic Spread
Saute garlic: In a small pan, heat olive oil over low heat. Add peeled garlic cloves and gently sauté for 10–15 minutes until soft and fragrant (not browned). Cool & combine: Let the garlic cool slightly. In a bowl, combine the garlic (along with the oil), softened butter, parsley, paprika flakes, paprika powder, black pepper, and salt. Blend: Use a blender or fork to mash into a smooth, spreadable mixture.
3. Assemble the Flatbreads
Preheat oven: Set oven to 400°F (200°C). Line baking trays with parchment paper. Divide dough: Once risen, divide the dough into 2–3 equal portions (approx. 250–400g each). Shape: Roll each piece into a long or round flat shape to fit your tray. Second rise: Place on the prepared trays, lightly cover, and let rise for 15–20 more minutes.
4. Add Spread, Cheese & Toppings
Spread garlic butter: Evenly spread the garlic mixture over each flatbread. Add cheese and toppings: Sprinkle shredded cheese generously and top with your choice of vegetables.
5. Bake
Bake in preheated oven for 15–20 minutes or until the crust turns golden and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
6. Serve
Let cool slightly, then slice and serve warm. Enjoy your homemade garlic cheese flatbread!
