Directions

  1. In a bowl, mix 1 egg, 50 gm sugar, 1 tsp vanilla sugar, 15 gm corn starch, and 250 ml milk until well combined. Heat the mixture in a pan over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens. Cover the custard with plastic wrap to prevent a skin from forming and set aside to cool.

  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together 2 eggs, 100 gm sugar, 1 tsp vanilla sugar, and a pinch of salt until smooth. Add 200 ml milk and 50 gm vegetable oil, then mix well.

  3. In another bowl, combine 200 gm flour and 10 gm baking powder. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until smooth. Peel and core the apples, then chop them into small pieces. Gently fold the apple pieces into the batter.

  4. Pour the batter into a greased or lined 22 cm baking dish. Spoon or pipe the cooled custard topping over the batter in a circular pattern. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (356°F) for 40 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  5. Let the cake cool slightly, then sprinkle with powdered sugar. Serve warm or at room temperature.
